Spring is all about rejuvenation, so why not take the same approach to our closets? This season, I’ve teamed up with Manulife Centre (just over at 55 Bloor St West) to give you some of my styling tips to have your spring wardrobe in tip top shape for the warm weather ahead!
Closet Clean-Out
Before you put away your winter wardrobe, it’s always a good idea to go through everything and see if there are any items that need a good cleaning before being put into storage. Winter coats, wool scarves and dress pants are all pieces are worn often and can get a little worn out. I recommend a professional treatment at Parkers Cleaners to keep them looking and feeling fresh. This way, when the cold weather hits, you’ll be ready!
Once you’ve switched over to your spring closet, go through to check if anything needs to be tailored, fixed, or freshened up. Chances are some shoes may need to be resoled, buffed and shined or you may have missed an end of season pair of pants being hemmed and a sweater with a rip. Stitch It and Roy’s Shoe Repair Bar can revive your spring go-to’s (and then some!). By updating or refreshing your existing pieces, you’ll save a lot of money long term; the better you take care of your wardrobe, the longer it’ll take care of you!
Last but not least I always recommend when putting your spring items back into rotation to take a look at things you may not have worn for awhile (or things that may not fit anymore). Make a toss pile, a donation pile and a consignment pile – and be honest with yourself – if you haven’t worn that dress or blazer in 4 years chances are you won’t be wearing it again. Once you’ve organized your closet with the revised pieces, you can make a shopping list of things are missing. This will make your shopping experience more enjoyable, efficient and ultimately, it will help you smarter clothing choices!
